Small Axe is an independent booking agency and music management group. Our team is based on a collective network of musicians, organizers and friends who are interested in creating events outside the mainstream music business.

We represent artists who play roots music, authentic masters of ancient traditions as well as innovators of today’s version of tribal cultures. From West African griots to the best instrumental trance music and underground dub sound system, we seek to promote both the disappearing pure sounds of indigenous cultures, and encourage groups who are part of the new generation of groundbreaking western musicians.

This is music that brings us together, reminds us who we are, and most of all insists that we dance.

Based in Europe and the US, Small Axe offers tri-lingual services in booking and tour management (Spanish, French, English). Translation (and creation if needed) of all press materials, creation of websites, press kit presentation, grant writing, and workshop proposals. Small Axe designs national and international tours for musicians and provides an experienced tour manager. We take care of all aspects of touring, from obtaining visas (P1 Artist Visa for the USA) pre-booking, tour scheduling, contract negotiation, securing the desired back line, supplementary instrument rental, hotel accommodations, transportation etc.

Cassandra Purdy started Small Axe in 2003 when organizing the first US tour for Hilight Tribe. Cassandra has been booking and promoting world music groups in New England since 1994 and by 2000 was working with members of the African griot diaspora based in New York City as well as musicians in Europe. Since then the network has grown as we have travelled and lived in places such as Ibiza and India, finding venues and events that are hungry for new sounds.
